Focus and advise on the evolving law of copyright to the members of the section.
Encourages existing members to maintain their Section membership and the growth of the Section by the addition of new members; provides information and assistance regarding employment of prospective employers and employees; and coordinates with the Section Secretary and Treasurer the annual updating, publishing and distribution of the directory of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the State Bar of Texas.
Monitors the statutes and judicial decisions relating to patent prosecution as well as practice before the USTPO. Also monitors the proposed legislation and treaty provisions pertaining to patent law revision and recommend supporting, opposing and amendment resolutions thereto; and initiates resolutions for proposed patent law legislation in view of judicial decision, court and administrative agency practices.
To follow the developments in ADR practice throughout the world and report matters of interest; to participate in WIPO's development of an ADR service for international IP cases; to undertake education via articles and speeches by which to educate Section members with respect to ADR; to recommend resolutions and take such other actions as the developments in the area may suggest.
Advises the membership of current developments in the field of antitrust law and trade regulation insofar as they are related to intellectual property law; reviews the statutes, legislation, judicial decisions, treaties, and practices and procedures before the courts and administrative agencies; and recommends resolutions for originating, supporting or opposing positions on current positions and proposed changes.
Encourage cultural diversity within the legal profession and the entrance of minorities into the area of intellectual property law practice.
To advise the membership of current developments in those areas of law relating to electronics and computers; to prepare a periodic update on recent legal developments in these areas; and to consider resolutions that will assist with the orderly future development of law in these areas.
Monitors the statutes and judicial decisions relating to intellectual property litigation. Identifies trends and best practices relating to intellectual property litigation.
To address international law aspects of intellectual property.
Encourages inventorship within the State of Texas and identifies inventors who have made a significant contribution to the development of science, technology, and commerce within the State of Texas.
The purpose of the Public Relations Committee is to educate the public about intellectual property law and to engage in public service activities to further that goal. The Committee will organize a speaker’s bureau to fulfill requests for speakers on intellectual property law topics to non-lawyers, general lawyers, law students, and schoolchildren in Texas. The Committee will advise council as to opportunities for the Section to serve the public with respect to education on intellectual property law and other public service activities intended to enhance the image of the section and its members. The Committee will develop policies on media inquiries from the public to the Section.
The Texas Intellectual Property Law Journal is published jointly by the State Bar of Texas Intellectual Property Law Section and students at the University of Texas School of Law. Established in 1992, the Journal has become one of the premier publications in the intellectual property law field. The Journal is published three times per year, and each issue contains scholarly articles, notes, and news about the Section. Advises membership of current legislation, judicial decisions, treaties, practices and procedures before the courts and the Trademark Operations of the PTO; recommends resolutions for supporting, opposing or amending current conditions and proposed changes, including those proposed by other organizations.
The objective of this task force is to provide networking and mentoring resources and opportunities to women practitioners of intellectual property law throughout the State of Texas.
Monitors the statutes and judicial decisions relating to unfair competition and trade secrets, and particularly, but without limitation, including protection of trade secrets and other information maintained in confidence, interferences with contractual relations, trade dress confusion, product simulation, trade libel and slander; advises the membership of important developments related to unfair competition and trade secret law; and proposes resolutions for legislative or other action related to unfair competition and trade secret law.
Monitors the level of professional activities in the practice of intellectual property law and advises the membership; recommends resolutions for changes within the Code of Professional Responsibility; answers questions by the membership and to the Section concerning ethical conduct; reviews the participation of persons in the practice in meeting their professional responsibilities, particularly regarding pro-bono work in cooperation with the lawyer referral service of the State Bar of Texas; and monitors, reports and recommends action, including prosecution, against those engaged in any unauthorized practice of intellectual property law especially the activities of unethical inventor developers and "vanity" publishers.
