Upcoming events:
May 2021 | Publication date set for commemorative book entitled Fritz Garland Lanham—Father of American Trademark Protection. The book traces Fort Worth Congressman Fritz Lanham’s rise from small-town prosecutor on the windswept plains of the Lone Star State to the halls of Congress, where his long and distinguished congressional career serving the 12th congressional district burnished his reputation as a legislative giant. By the time he retired, not only had Lanham left an indelible mark on American commerce by the enactment of the landmark Lanham Trademark Act, but he simultaneously oversaw the construction of numerous federal buildings across the country, including the United States Supreme Court building—on time and under budget. A preview of the book, which has been sent to the printer, will be available for pre-order beginning in March and distribution in May. All proceeds will fund a scholarship program in Congressman Lanham’s honor. |
March 2021 | Proposed completion date of Permanent and Traveling Lanham Exhibitions and five-minute documentary about Fritz Lanham and the Lanham Act by the National Inventors Hall of Fame and commissioned by the State Bar’s Intellectual Property Section (IP Section) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. |
June 17-18, 2021 | 75th Anniversary Celebration of the Lanham Act at the Texas State Bar Annual Meeting, Fort Worth, Texas. The IP Section will hold a luncheon meeting on June 18 (either live or virtual). The keynote speaker will be U.S. Trademark Commissioner David Gooder. The IP Section also intends to premiere the Lanham documentary. We are also inviting President Joe Biden, Chief Justice John Roberts, and Congresswoman Kay Granger to make some brief pre-recorded remarks. At the meeting, we intend to present the hoped-for Presidential Proclamation, Bicameral Congressional Resolution, and flags flown over the Capitol to present to Lanham’s descendants. The IP Section’s Annual Trademark Award, which has been renamed in honor of Fritz Lanham, will also be presented. |
